Look no further; Serbia has magnificent and diverse landscapes to offer. In this blog post, we are going to talk about one of the greatest hiking National Parks in Serbia!
1. Tara National Park
Tara National Park is located in Western Serbia, bordering Bosnia and Herzegovina. It’s characterized by dense forests, deep river canyons, mountain plateaus, and rare wildlife like brown bears and golden eagles. Here are some hiking places to visit:
- Banjska Stena Viewpoint – it’s a short, scenic hike, around 5 km round trip
- Mitrovac to Predov Krst – a moderate forest trek
- Zaovine Lake Trails – gentle paths with lakeside views

2. Kopaonik National Park

- Pančić Peak Trail – easy-moderate difficulty, leads to Serbia’s highest point (2,017 m)

- Marine Vode Trails – family-friendly routes through spruce forests

- Monasteries – Gradac, Studenica

3. Đerdap National Park
We’ve taken you to Western and Central Serbia, now it’s time to give some love to Eastern Serbia, and Đerdap National Park. Its picturesque rolling hills, steep cliffs and river gorges are enhanced by the Danube River that is streaming past. Let’s highlight some hiking challenges:
- Veliki Štrbac Viewpoint Trail – one of the most famous hikes in Serbia, overlooking the Danube Gorge
- Šomrda Trail – a remote ridge hike for those who love going on trails with fewer tourists
- Golubac to Lepenski Vir – easy walking with visits to archaeological site
When it comes to sightseeing:
- Golubac Fortress – a medieval stronghold on the riverbank

4. Fruška gora National Park

- Novi Sad’s Petrovaradin Fortress nearby
- Local wineries producing Bermet dessert wine
5. Šar Mountain National Park
Šar Mountain National Park is in Southern Serbia, bordering North Macedonia and Kosovo. Its characteristic rugged alpine peaks, deep valleys and glacial lakes make it eye-candy for any seasoned hiker and adventurer. The hiking highlights of Šar Mountain:
- Ljuboten Peak Trail – a challenging ascent for experienced hikers with views over the Balkans
- Popova Šapka to Lešnica Valley – long scenic route through alpine pastures
- Glacial Lake Hikes – multiple short hikes to mountain lakes
